Thank you for answering my question and for the awesome model photos! I'm always curious as to how creative minds integrate and see the world; I have a few singer songwriter friends and author friends. I'm in awe of how you can leash or unleash your imagination to produce wondrous works of art. Appreciate a look behind the curtain!
We love these daily mails and are so glad we subscribed. This is particularly exceptional, however! Nothing else comes close to your own words and memories about your work, Michael. Thrilling, really. Thank you, with all our hearts, for taking time to do this. And may you be enjoying more time/energy for your personal art. (But having been an acquaintance of my beloved Ray Bradbury, the image of your notes covering Fahrenheit 451 make my heart so glad; looks like my copy of Martian Chronicles -- I have it arranged so I can see my signed book in the same glance as our print of Descent.)
Belated question, when Dr. Brose told you that you would have to come to class and paint rather than painting at home then turning completed assignments in, did that bother you? It sure didn't bother us. He was right. Being able to watch you work was an inspiration to all of us in his class.
That’s a fantastic question. I was thinking about diving into that time period, specifically the influence Dr. Brose and M.D. Stewart had on the young artist.
Oh dear great master, much respected and appreciated!
I once saw your art of the Dark Tower - the cover of a Stephen King book, where the Gunslinger stands in a field with a revolver, against the background of the tower, among roses - and I was shocked, amazed, couldn't tear myself away. I ran and bought reproduction with your signature on Amazon. I put the reproduction in a gold metal frame and stared at it for hours.
Master, please tell how you painted the picture and where the original is stored, and how much is its price?
Thanks for your question and kind words. That sounds like the cover for THE DARK TOWER (Book 7). Unfortunately the original painting sold many years ago and is no longer in the Whelan collection. I'll check with Michael to see if he has anything new to share about the process of painting it.
Thank you very much Michael. I ask you to convey to the great master Michael Whelan a request to tell him everything that is possible about this painting

So enjoy the added pleasure of your comments after decades of only seeing occ book covers and Whelan Walls
I don't think I've seen EYE before, love it. Images speak, they don't use words but they most certainly do communicate to the viewers.
