I met Alan Dean Foster at a DragonCon many years ago. A true gentleman in every sense of the word! I bumped into him while he was just walking around the convention floor a day before his scheduled appearance for a book signing. I had brought several boxes of books for him to sign and he said since he wasn’t doing anything special to go get them. So I spent pleasant several hours talking to him about his work and science fiction in general. One thing he noticed right away were the Michael Whelan signatures! He was so complimentary and effusive about the beautiful pictures Michael had done for his books.
