Thank you for bringing up "Sorcerers": now I'm going to have to track that down, because that's one collection of cover art I knew nothing about until you brought it up. (And there are all sorts of interesting stories about pinball art taking inspiration from contemporary fantastic artists, including the big lawsuit against Bally by HR Giger, where even a snotnosed 14-year-old like me recognized the "influence" when coming across the game at my local video arcade right about the time "Alien" started playing regularly on cable...)

Could I use the opening image you have (you with the open hands on the pinball machine background) as a possible cover for a novella I am thinking of?

I have authored some 30 books independently so am not a big name but I do get around to writing what I want eventually. I would, of course, give full credit and link to this post too.

And I’d send you a couple of hard copies (signed and with dedication if you want) it would not be something that would happen right away as am finishing a massive non fiction work right now but I tend to need to write short fun projects after such work. You can see my work to see if you are ok with this on amazon here: https://amzn.to/3S7Q776

or in digital format here: https://payhip.com/EBOOKSBYGFILOTTO/collection/ebooks

Thanks for this post either way it was fascinating in that slightly absurd way reality has that fiction barely ever captured (aside from PKD).

The face is Michael's but the art is someone else's. I have no idea who holds the copyright. This is definitely on the strangest "stranger than fiction" stories Michael has told.

Well, as my grandfather used to say, he who steals from a thief is only half-guilty… so… But apologies, i confused you with him. If you are in touch, could you ask him if I am ok to use the bit that belongs ro him at least, ie his face.

Peter and I used to play pinball all the time!

Oh, and that photo--I'm not surprised they used your image (the image of YOU, not one from your art) It's a powerful photo.

Whitby Abbey! I went to Whitby in 1973 because that's where Dracula made landfall in England! Then there were no trains out. No hotels, no B&Bs, hostel was full. We sat up on the hill where the abbey was and eventually boarded a sailboat up the coast of Yorkshire, which is a whole other story...but I LOVE that Abbey. And of course Stoker would have had Dracula make landfall in Whitby: where all the jet for Victorian Mourning jewelry was mined!

This is far more interesting than my art stolen back in the early eighties. It's still in use today, for mud flaps for 18 wheelers. At least you can avoid arcades. I get reminded as I drive down roads all over the USA. But, if our image and art (music, writing, etc.) was never stolen we would never know the extents to which unsavory/opportunistic/cheapskates liked it. ....yay...?

I love pinball. That's awesome.

Me too, but I have to admit that I never really mastered it.

When I was working on the Jacksons album cover I got to visit Marlon at his beautiful home in Hollywood. I noted with envy that he had a playroom with a few high end pinball machines, all lit up and ready to go. But I had no time for play then, alas.
