IN DAI CHIKIZA

With face etched in concern, a red-haired young man emerges through a circular archway into ancient ruins. In his arms, he cradles a small man with an arrow piercing his stomach. The man is slight in stature and has a youthful face—he could be mistaken for a child. Trailing behind is another figure outfit in wilderness garb and pack. The architecture has a distinctly elven feel, slightly overgrown. In the foreground left, a wolf howls as if acknowledging their approach. Deeper int he background, a series of ornate pillars obscure a larger facade, hinting at the depth of the ruins.

STONE OF FAREWELL

Standing in a wintry forest, a man grips the blade of a smooth black sword that stands hilt up as tall as he is. In a kaleidoscope of thousands of wings, butterflies burst through the woods behind him. Dour faced, Simon is wrapped plainly in heavy green cloak. A snowy lock set in red hair sweeps wide across his forehead. The channel of a scar meanders down from his temple following the curve of his cheek all the way to his jaw. He clutches a white arrow and silver hand mirror in the crook of his arm. Set opposite panel left, the forest opens to a serene view of a lake. Framed by birch trees, a tall cool stone rises from the water. Barely perceptible, a castle sits at the top. The shape of the stone implies an open hand in its gray outline. Evergreens line tiered ridges, arching low on the rock to suggest a bearded face.

GREEN ANGEL TOWER

A contrast of two worlds set atop a tower spire. The left is elegantly detailed with elvish artistry while the right looks crumbled and weathered. Drifting from the background left to right, smoke rises off onion domes of the city. As it crosses the spire, the smoke transforms to cloud cover. An elvish male stares off in the distance with his white cloak partially wrapping his arm and his spear pointed down over his knee. There is a green metallic sheen to his leg armor. He holds an ornate shield, pearlescent green at the edges and white at the center, decorated with glyphs bound in a pink circle. Kneeling next to him is an elvish female wearing a pink and purple cloak. Holding a slender sword in one hand, she grips the thin railing that sits low over architectural detail, broad white leaves. On the other side of the spire, a human female glances haughtily at the audience with a bow held out, braced on her hip. Kneeling next to her, a blonde bearded male with a snowy lock glances over. He rests his sword back on his shoulder while holding a simple wooden shield in his offhand. His pants are torn; her cloak is tattered. Their side of the tower is made of crude snow covered stone, underlining a different reality.

DARKNESS OVER HAYHOLT

Constrained view of a castle courtyard as seen at night through a stone archway lit from behind the viewer. On the right, the Tower of Hjeldin rises with wide narrow, barred slits at the top glowing red. The statue of an angel stands on the left with one arm raised. Tall bushes obscure the entrance through an inner wall leading to the keep. Above is a mix of starry dark sky and layers of clouds illuminated by a glowing crescent moon.

EMPIRE OF GRASS

Grass and ivy have overgrown ancient ruins, but the delicate artistry of the Sithi can be see in the still standing pillars and arches bathed in the golden light of sunset. A solitary statue kneels among the ruins. She holds a bow one-handed with an arrow knocked. In the other, she lightly grips a long spear with the tip angled down. In the foreground left, stairs wind up to another level of the ruins. A long sword and shield lay discarded there. Another skull and a dagger rest on the step above. Clearly, the remains are non-human based on the central ridge of spikes along the crown and the wing like projections from either edge of the skull.

OTHERLAND: CITY OF GOLDEN SHADOWS

A shimmering cascade winds through a city of radiant domes and spires all rendered in gold. Eventually the concentrated stream dissipates as it exits lower right through an ornate gate of intersecting arches. Descending from high, an animated string of human figures, varying in sequential poses, vanishes down into a large jeweled window atop the largest dome. Across the dome's facade a nonsensical string of symbols floats (a dove, padlock, ammonite, hourglass, rowboat, starfish, etc).

DRAGON ABOARD

In the cargo hold of a spaceship, a dragon floats with female rider saddled high on its shoulders. Gripping reins, she cranes her neck back to glance at the viewer. Disorienting, the perspective into the cargo hold is slightly angled with the lines of interior structure not quite lining up with the wide octagonal bulkhead leading into it. There is no true horizon to orient on which prompts a sense of weightlessness and implies slow rotation. The hold itself is cropped with the right of it falling off-panel. Just past the dragon, a large porthole provides a view planet-side with sun partially obscured behind a bright arc. A red dot burns menacingly nearby. In the lower left, an access panel glows with dots of red, yellow, and green. The display screen just above is lit with a picture of the author. Her hair is white and her smile is warm.

DRAGON LAKE

On the shore of a lake, a red-headed woman in Romani-style garb approaches a dragon twice her height. Orange scaled, its sinuous neck curves as it lifts a beak shaped head. Gripping rock with hind legs and forelimb, its tail swishes water as wings flair back warily. A flame pattern ripples along the underside of the limb supporting its wing. More gold scales run under its chin down its belly and along the underside of its tail.

DRAGONSBANE

On a platform in front of a stone castle wall a black dragon rises on back legs while holding out an unconscious woman in its clawed forelimbs. There's intelligence reflected in the slit of purple eyes that focus downward. On its head, it has a pair of curving, forward facing horns, a short shaggy mane, and a fin that runs down the back of its long, sinuous neck. Its form is all scales and bristles, but despite the fearsome appearance its body language suggests gentle care. Farther back, a pair of men stand on mist shrouded stairs leading down from the front of the castle. A drawbridge carved with the artist's sigil tilts forward slightly ajar.

GIFT FROM THE SEA

Wearing a tan cloak with red trim, a woman with long brown hair stands next to a scaly green dragon. Perched on the rocky seashore, it curls its long slender tail and spreads its wings over her. A spiky conch-like shell hovers over her outstretched palm, casting a radial aura that illuminates them both. Reverently, her other hand is held to her chest as her eyes are cast up. Behind them, an outcrop of dark rock projects up on diagonals that mirror the the shore they stand on. The backdrop mostly blocks out a night sky painted in a gradient of blue to purple. Two crescent moons spaced far apart are visible in the break between the rocks.

THE WHITE DRAGON

Ruth, a pearl white dragon with green eyes, poses regally with wings spread against a cliff face. Her rider Jaxom rears back, saddle-mounted just above her wings. A foreclaw grips rock as the other releases, flexing like fingers. Ruth's tail, marked with a parallel ridges of short spikes and ending in a spade-shaped tip, curls forward around her back leg. A tiny dragon grasps Jaxom's finger, perching like a bird. Across the misty valley, a group of dragons take flight, soaring past the Red Star which hangs in deep blue sky like a bloody moon just above the jagged spine of mountains.
