This is another one that I really like. The duality of motion and stillness is conveyed in a powerful but subtle manner. The victorious Amazon is posed in stillness following victory yet a sense of motion is conveyed by the blowing of the wind evidenced by the horse’s mane and tail, the Amazon’s hair, and the tassels on her helmet and weapon. It is impossible for me to look and this picture without feeling the breeze myself. I also feel sadness and even loss when looking at the pose of the defeated warrior and the broken weapon. Whose purpose was right or wrong? Did good triumph here or evil? Again Michael’s deft hand gives us many things to ponder and feel.
