Communicating a sense of magic on a book cover without the recognizable cliches of wizard hats, wands, or flying carpets can be a difficult task for a modern illustrator. The glowing orb leaves no doubt that there's magic in these pages.
This illustration was for The Mageborn Traitor, the second book in the Exiles trilogy by Melanie Rawn. Like her previous work, these stories are complex and rewarding providing much inspiration, but decades later the trilogy still stands incomplete, a point of frustration among fans as the books held such promise.

My favourite painting of all time! It is just so utterly magical and I love seeing the cover every day on my shelves. The series is incomplete but worth its weight in gold and only your covers could have done it justice. Thank you again for this wonderful painting - I can’t tell you how much I love it!
