My first cover for Frederik Pohl came with this satirical, post apocalyptic space opera.
When the West annihilates itself in nuclear war, China and India split the world. But when they discover aliens are on the way and demanding to speak to President of the United States, they appoint a new president as envoy to the mammaloid-insectoid race of “erks” (!).

I had that book in the mid 80s and immediately recognized that awesome cover! The guy with the big head is “Many Face” who had several brains transplanted into his head, so he was super smart with numerous personalities. The aliens came demanding to talk to the U.S. president. The U.S. no longer existed so the Chinese chose this random blonde guy from Mississippi to act like he was the president. The aliens were hilarious - all they cared about was war and “fornicating” lmao. That cover captured the characters perfectly!
I like the contrast between the vague background and the sharp foreground. What made you decide on that?
