The spiral works perfectly as a visual metaphor for that duality. Confinement and security aren't opposites here, they're the same geometry viewed from different emotional states. The way the concrete walls curve inward creates this weird paradox where protection becomes imprisonment the moment perspective shifts. Reminds me of how asylum systems in general function, whether we're talking about mental health institutions or refugee policy, same architectural logic of containment disguised as care.
My only quibble (with the understanding that I might not be seeing the entire piece) is the open end of the spiral implies an easy way out. I should think a locked gate of some sort might bring the point home more clearly. 😀
